Man pleads guilty to reduced charges in 2016 Columbia homicide
A man initially charged with second degree murder pleaded guilty to lesser charges on Monday in connection with a Columbia homicide.
According to assistant prosecuting attorney Jennifer Rodewald, Dariel Reid pleaded guilty to felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute in connection with the 2016 shooting death of Keith Chambers.
Prosecutors initially charged Reid with second degree murder and felony distribution, delivery, manufacturing and producing of a controlled substance.
Two other people were also charged in the case.
Navarro Scott pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of armed criminal action last week. Scott was sentenced to 7 years on the manslaughter count and 12 years on the armed criminal action count, to be served at the same time.
Brian Smith pleaded guilty to robbery and armed criminal action in June and received 15 years on each count to be served concurrently.
Prosecutors said Reid’s final disposition date is scheduled for November.
