More of collapsed wall comes down as owners plan demolition

A falling wall on an East High Street building collapsed further Monday, with a Jefferson City official saying further collapse is likely unless the building’s owner takes action.

The western wall of 200 E. High St. partially collapsed in June and the owner decided in July to demolish the structure. However, 200 E. High shares walls with two other buildings, which might both be affected by the demolition.

External supports have been put up to keep the remaining part of the wall in place. The biggest concern, city building official Larry Burkhart has said, is public safety as parts of the wall continue to fall.

Burkhart said the wall is likely to continue falling down if the building remains in its current state.

The owners of 200 E. High and its neighboring properties, 202 and 204 E. High, are discussing demolition plans.
