Child injured in Jefferson City bus crash
A 7-year-old Jefferson City boy is recovering from minor injuries after a school bus crash Monday afternoon.
A Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report said the collision happened just after 4 p.m. on westbound U.S. 50 near Henwick Lane.
A JCPS spokesperson said six students were on Bus 71 at the time of the crash, some of whom were being transported home from Thomas Jefferson Middle School and others from Pioneer Trail Elementary School.
According to the MSHP, the bus driver attempted to cross the highway and an SUV struck it from behind.
“Parents of the students on board at the time of the accident were all notified immediately,” said JCPS spokeswoman Ryan Burns. “One Pioneer Trail student received medical attention on-site from EMS for a bitten lip, no stitches were required.”
Cole County EMS & Highway Patrol troopers responded to the crash.
JCPS did not comment when asked about the bus driver’s performance record with First Student, but the district said the driver was not issued a citation.
