UPDATE: Crash on Old Highway 63 leaves one person dead
UPDATE 9:20 a.m.: Columbia police officials confirmed that Perri Jones, 21, of Columbia, was killed in the crash on Old Highway 63. Authorities said she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the car.
Destiny Hardin, 19, of Columbia, was the only passenger in the car. She was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. She also was not wearing a seatbelt, authorities said.
In a news release, Columbia police said the car failed to navigate a curve, ran off the right side of the road, went down an embankment and began to roll.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
Officials said they are investigating if Jones was under the influence at the time of the crash.
UPDATE 5:30 a.m.: All of Old Highway 63 is back open.
An early-morning crash has shut down part of Old 63 in Columbia near Grindstone Nature Area.
Columbia police said the driver lost control, left the roadway and crashed into woods nearby. There are reports of serious injuries.
ABC 17 News crews at the scene saw several emergency vehicles in the area shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday.
