Details released on MU’s settlement with former assistant football coach
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The University of Missouri will pay former offensive coordinator Derek Dooley $200,000 to settle an 18-month long lawsuit.
ABC 17 News received a copy of the settlement agreement between the two sides. It states that an agreement was reached on July 6, which is about a week before the case was set to go to court. In addition to the $200,000, MU will also pay $70,000 to Dooley's lawyers.
As a result of the settlement, Dooley will not be able to sue Mizzou for anything related to his employment in the future.
He sued the university in January of 2021, alleging that MU did not pay him what he was owed under contract. The current Alabama offensive analyst claimed Mizzou still needed to pay him a year's salary.
The university hired Dooley in 2018 as an offensive coordinator. He originally agreed to a $900,000 yearly salary lasting until 2022, but the school upped the payment in March 2019 to $925,000. The school let Dooley go in December of that same year, along with head coach Barry Odom.
