Contractor fined after Jefferson City job site accident
Federal regulators have fined a contractor working at the construction site of the new Capitol City High School in Jefferson City.
Samron Midwest Contracting of Jefferson City will pay $18,755 in fines for three violations flagged by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration after three people were injured at the work site in July. That amount was negotiated down from the initial penalty of $24,575.
The citations are for not providing fall protection, improper training and improper use of ladders, U.S. Department of Labor spokeswoman Rhonda Burke said. The citations were issued Aug. 1, according to details of the inspection posted on the OSHA website. The serious violation – improper fall protection – was addressed on Aug. 27, according to the inspection report. The other two violations are still being addressed.
Emergency crews found a 47-year-old man conscious with serious injuries at the construction site July 2. He was taken to University Hospital in Columbia. The fire department said an additional worker was also evaluated for injuries related to the incident, but was not transported.
