Veto session begins at state Capitol Wednesday

Missouri lawmakers have been back at work this week for a special session that coincides with a veto session.

The veto session allows lawmakers to revisit bills the governor rejected during the regular session. Back during the regular session, Gov. Mike Parson signed a $28.65 billion state budget, vetoing 21 line-items totaling roughly $12 million.

Legislators may discuss potential overrides of vetoes to approximately $154,000 in funding to hospitals to certify trauma, stroke and heart attack victims, $50,000 for emergency rescue tourniquets for law enforcement personnel and $100,000 for the Office of Child Advocate, which investigates child abuse and neglect cases.

Another possible bill lawmakers could bring up includes $1 million to emergency bridge repair and replacement funds for accelerated replacement or immediate repair to bridges.

To successfully override a veto, both the House and Senate would need two-thirds of their members to support the motion.
