Judge to sentence Boone County man convicted in fatal Harrisburg crash

A Boone County man will be in court Tuesday morning for a sentencing hearing in connection with a fatal bus crash in Harrisburg.

Brandon Brill, 27, of Clark, pleaded guilty to first-degree involuntary manslaughter and second-degree assault in July.

Brill was charged in connection with a crash in September of 2017 that resulted in the death of Brian Simpson, a Harrisburg teacher, coach and, at the time, bus driver. Five students were also injured in the crash.

Brill claimed he was sleep-deprived when he got on Route F after a 16-hour work shift, according to Boone County Assistant Prosecutor Roger Johnson.

Brill has prior convictions of drug possession and driving offenses. He faces up to 22 years in prison.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. with Judge Jeff Harris.
