Columbia man sentenced after downtown shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Columbia man is sentenced to eight years in prison for assault after he shot at police in downtown Columbia in Jan. 2021.
Anthony Stapleton was sentenced on Tuesday and will be given credit for the time served.
Stapleton entered a guilty plea on May 31.
Columbia police originally attempted to pull over a stolen vehicle shortly after midnight when the vehicle crashed at the intersection of Ash and Orr streets, after a short chase.
Police say then Stapleton and two other juvenile suspects got out of the vehicle and ran from the scene.
The release said the shooting suspects got out of the car and ran from the scene.
Officers found multiple shell casings at the scene. One of the police vehicles was also damaged in the shooting, police said.
Stapleton's attorney Robin Winn defended him in court.
