Many factors play into MU game attendance

More than 50,000 people filled Memorial Stadium as the Tigers defeated Wyoming in their second game of the season.

Weather, holiday weekends and the opponent are a few factors that play into the final attendance score at an MU home football game.

44,019 people attended last weekend’s home game when the Tigers took on UT Martin in their season opener.

50,131 people attended MU”s first home game last year against Missouri State at the start of the 2017 season. However, the temperature was in the upper 60s during the game last year.

Last weekend’s game saw temperatures in the high 90s.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper said first responders treated almost 100 people during the football game last weekend.

First responders set up a triage at the Hearnes Center to treat patients quickly.

He said they will treat less people at this weekend’s game because of the drop in temperature.

The rainy weather did not stop all the tiger fans from tailgating Saturday afternoon, but there were less fans outside than last weekend’s hot game.

Lisa Kurtz, an MU fan and St. Charles resident said she prefers the rainy weather over the hot weather.

“Last week there were a lot people getting sick and I actually had to leave and come down to get out of the sun because there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, and they were all getting saved up for this weekend,” Kurtz said.

ABC 17 News had crews talking to tailgaters before the game, but there were not many people tailgating Saturday compared to last week.

Most tiger fans showed up right before kick off, as MU took on Purdue in their second home game of the season.

Faurot Field can hold 10,000 less people this season than last season because of the south end zone construction.
