Facility in Audrain County to increase jobs over the next 5 years
Spartan Light Metal Products broke ground on its new die cast manufacturing facility in Mexico, Missouri, on Wednesday.
The new facility will be 135,000 square feet and is planned to create 100 new manufacturing jobs in the area over the next five years.
The multi-million dollar facility will operate a separate plant from Spartan Light Metal Products and will be located in the 2200 block of Jubel Drive.
President and CEO Bruce Breitzman said the company is a supplier to automobile manufacturers.
Breitzaman said they are looking to electrification as the future of the industry.
“It’s very exciting for the company and its very exciting for me. I’m the first non-family member CEO and its exciting times here,” Breitzaman said.
The plant will use lighter weight materials in propulsion systems. This first phase of the project will have room for “up to four large tonnage die cast machines, with the ability to cast either magnesium or aluminum,” Breitzaman said.
“The time is now to take another step forward in strengthening Spartan Light Metal Products for the future,” Breitzman said in a news release.
Spartan Light Medal Products Executive Chairman Don Jubel said the new facility will be a state of the art manufacturing plant.
“It’ll probably have over a hundred employees to start,” Jubel said.
Jubel’s father started the company in 1961 and Spartan now employs up to 1,000 people.
Mexico’s Economic Development Director Russel Runge said the project creates jobs for Audrain County residents.
