Weather Alert Day: Tracking a heat wave for the bulk of the week

TODAY: Warm and muggy is one way to describe Monday morning. Temperatures will climb from the low 70s, into the mid-90s by Monday afternoon. Dewpoints in the low 70s will make it feel like low triple digit heat, so we've issued a Weather Alert Day for dangerous heat. Be wary of heat related illnesses today. A stray shower may be possible near I-44 this afternoon, but overall dry weather and partly cloudy skies are expected.

TONIGHT: Skies will clear overnight. Temperatures fall to mid 70s by sunrise.

EXTENDED: Clear skies at the start of the day, with turn to partly cloudy skies to the southeast. Folks from the Lake, to Jefferson City, and Montgomery City will have some cumulus clouds pop up in the afternoon. Closer to I-44, some of these will turn into showers and storms. No severe weather is anticipated, and very little rain is expected. Heat and humidity will remain, with feels like temperatures nearing 105. A Weather Alert day has been issued for Tuesday and Wednesday, with both days bringing extreme heat. With partly cloudy skies, a high near 100, and plenty of humidity, Wednesday will feel like nearly 105 as well. Heat and humidity will extend into Thursday and Friday, with both days in the mid-90s, and feeling like triple digit heat. Each day, only a slight chance for a pop up storm. The overall pattern breaks down this weekend, meaning highs only in the low 90s, with a slightly better chance for some scattered rainfall.
