Hot today, with beneficial rain set to arrive Tuesday

TODAY: It’s a clear and pleasant start to the workweek across Mid-Missouri. While temperatures are hovering in the upper 60s and lower 70s this morning, expect them to quickly climb through the day. Under mostly sunny skies and southeasterly winds up to 10 mph, we’ll see afternoon highs top out in the mid 90s. Low humidity will keep the heat indices just a few degrees warmer than the actual air temperature. Extreme southwestern parts of Mid-Missouri will see partly cloudy skies through the day, with a chance for a few spot storms.

TONIGHT: Increasing clouds expected through the night, ahead of an upper level low that will slowly track a warm front through the region. this will bring isolated showers and storms into the night, with overnight lows bottoming out near 70. The best chance for any storms will be to our southwest, which will become more widespread through the day Tuesday.

EXTENDED: As the upper level low slowly tracks to the east, it will bring some tropical moisture with it. This is great news for us here in Mid-Missouri, as it will lead to a high confidence forecast in waves of rain through Wednesday evening. Unfortunately not all of us will see the amounts that we need to alleviate the drought that has anchored itself across the region. Areas along and west of Hwy 63 will likely see anywhere form .50″ to 1.5″, with higher amounts as you approach Hwy 65 through Wednesday evening. You’ll want to make sure you keep the umbrella handy through the week, as the pattern will be conducive for several upper level disturbances to track through the region. This means daily rain chances in the forecast and some days cooler than others. Watch ABC 17 News on air, and online for the latest up to date weather forecasts.
