Planned Parenthood Great Plains to remain open after Roe v. Wade ruling

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

For years Planned Parenthood has been at the center of the debate on Roe v. Wade.

With 12 health centers for Planned Parenthood located across Missouri, only one in the St. Louis area actually performed abortions.

Planned Parenthood has stopped providing abortion services at that location.

Planned Parenthood began reaching out to clients shortly after the Supreme Court decision came out this morning.

"Our patients, our team members, and loved ones no longer have the right to body autonomy, the right to make extremely personal bodily decisions," said Emily Wales, Planned Parenthood Great Plains president and CEO.

With the Missouri trigger law signed into place by Gov. Parson and Attorney General Eric Schmitt, the St. Louis office of Planned Parenthood immediately stopped providing abortion services Friday morning.

"The leaked opinion confirmed that our worst fears were very likely to become reality," said Wales.

As people who have relied on Planned Parenthood for a variety of different medical care needs the great plains region that serves Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma say they will still be there to help their clients.

"Great Plains Planned Parenthood's doors are open and we will stay open. We will provide sexual and reproductive care, today, tomorrow, and for years to come," said Wales.

The Columbia location here behind me will continue to provide birth control, std testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, and HIV services along with other services.
