Soggy and cool Sunday; Heat returns next week
TODAY: Overcast skies this morning are holding temperatures near 70 degrees this morning. With widespread rain slowly tracking into Mid-Missouri, temperatures won’t budge much for the first part of the day. A decaying line of storms is tracking into Mid-Missouri, bringing with it some much needed rain. While the storms are weakening, we could see brief gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rain through midmorning. Any rain we see today will be beneficial with anywhere from .50″ of rain to just under an inch. Isolated spots where heavier storms situate themselves will see rainfall amounts in excess of one inch. The best chance for this will occur along and south of I-70, where most of the rain will fall through the day. Highs today top out in the low to mid 70s, with winds out of the southeast up to 9 mph.
TONIGHT: Scattered showers and storms will linger into the evening under overcast skies. Any rain we see should dissipate by 2-3 AM, with a small chance for a spot shower after. Overnight lows will bottom out in the mid 60s with winds out of the east/southeast up to 5 mph.
EXTENDED: We stay cool to start out your work week with temperatures in the upper 70s. Rain chances continue Monday & Tuesday, but will primarily be confined to areas along and east of Hwy 63. We were able to get away with these cooler than average temperatures for the end of July, but as we head into the first half of August, we’re tracking temperatures slowly creeping back up. By the end of the week, more heat and humidity looks to build back into Mid-Missouri. Afternoon highs look to top out in the upper 80s and lower 90s, with heat indices topping out near 95-96 degrees.
