Columbia Solid Waste Utility continues to see staffing shortages

The city of Columbia Solid Waste Utility continues to experience severe collection staff shortages.

According to a press release, the staffing agency that has been providing temporary workers told the city they would no longer be able to provide that service.

The city said it is looking into other options to get temporary staff to handle collection.

The release said the city has canceled the Household Hazardous Waste Collection on Saturday in an effort to accommodate collection needs.

The city said Friday customers should put trash and recycling out as normal, but, if it is not picked up, residents should leave the trash on the curb to be picked up on Saturday.

Officials also warned the staffing shortage could continue into next week, but said residents should continue to put out their trash and recycling on their usual collection day.
