Mizzou surpasses $1 billion in fundraising campaign

MU announced record-breaking campaign numbers for 2018. Funds will allow MU to renovate the nursing school and build a new music school.

“We recognize the need to have a space to graduate more nursing students,” said Chancellor Alexander Cartwright. “We need more nurses in this country.”

Cartwright said money was raised through the support of alumni and donors.

“We are fortunate enough to have so many leaders at Mizzou that graduated out and have become incredibly successful,” Cartwright said. “They want to ensure others have the same opportunity to have that same experience.

The campaign helps to provide scholarships for students. It also focuses on Mizzou’s institutes like the Thompson Center for Autism & Neurodevelopmental Disorders, the Journalism School’s Novak Leadership Center and Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy.

“Look at our Autism Institute and Thompson Center in general and what it does for families who have family members that may be on the spectrum for autism,” Cartwright said. “It’s making a difference in the lives of those people and that;s what we want to be doing.”

MU hopes to exceed of $1.3 billion campaign goal by 2020.
