City of Columbia awarded multiple upcoming MSHSAA events
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The city of Columbia will host four upcoming statewide events for multiple years for the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA).
The city of Columbia will host:
- MSHSAA State Basketball Championships (2023/24 through 2027/28)
- MSHSAA State Boys Wrestling Championships (2024/25 through 2028/29)
- MSHSAA State Cross Country Championships (2024/25 through 2028/29)
- MSHSAA State Music Festival (2024/25 through 2028/29)
The Cross Country, Boys Wrestling, and State Music Festival are currently hosted by Columbia, and Basketball returns to the community for the first time since 2017.
"The opportunity to host these MSHSAA events is so important to our tourism industry, which is a vital local economic driver," said Columbia CVB Director Amy Schneider in a release. "Our entire community understands the importance of bringing these students to Columbia and came together to help support these proposals."
The Cross Country proposal was submitted in partnership with the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department. The Music Festival proposal was submitted in partnership with the University of Missouri School of Music. The Basketball and Boys Wrestling proposals were submitted in partnership with the University of Missouri Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Additionally, community sponsors have pledged significant financial support for the Basketball and Boys Wrestling proposals.
"Projects like these MSHSAA bids show the importance of local partnerships to achieve great things," said Columbia City Manager De'Carlon Seewood in a release. "We look forward to hosting students and fans from all over Missouri during these events."
