Missouri lawmakers react to Trump’s supreme court pick

President Donald Trump announced Brett Kavanaugh, who currently serves on the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, as his choice to replace the retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court.

Missouri’s elected officials had mixed reactions to the announcement, which you can see below:

“I look forward to thoroughly examining Judge Kavanaugh’s record in the coming weeks as the Senate considers his nomination to replace Justice Kennedy,” said U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, (D) – Missouri.

“Just as he did with the selection of Neil Gorsuch, President Trump has made an excellent decision in nominating Brett Kavanaugh,” said Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer, (R) – Missouri. “With decades of experience and a high regard for the United States Constitution, Brett Kavanaugh will ensure our American values are upheld for years to come. I am hopeful that my colleagues in the Senate will put political theater aside and swiftly confirm this qualified nominee.”

“Judge Kavanaugh is a highly-qualified nominee with an outstanding legal background,” said U.S. Senator Roy Blunt, (R) – Missouri. “I look forward to learning more about his judicial record and talking with him about his judicial philosophy as the confirmation process moves forward.”

“Selecting a Supreme Court Justice is one of the most important decisions the President can make,” said U.S. Rep. Sam Graves (R) – Missouri. “Judge Kavanaugh’s commitment to uphold the Constitution, conservative values, and his reputation as a brilliant jurist make him an excellent choice. I am confident that he will serve with distinction and I urge the Senate to act swiftly to confirm him to the Supreme Court.”
