UPDATE: Police identify man found in home with gunshot wound as former Battle High football player
UPDATE 8:15 p.m.: Resident, Tracie Vangel, told ABC 17 news, she found a round of ammunition and an earplug right outside her home.
She called police immediately; however, we are unsure if this is in fact evidence in relation to last night’s homicide.
“They came and took pictures and got it, and there was a little thing to protect your hearing if you’re shooting a gun or a loud power tool. So I thought that was suspicious,” said Vangel.
She also told us that she has seen suspicious activity at the complex.
“I just noticed a lot of really run down vehicles go in and out of it at all hours,” said Vangel.
We checked police reports, police have been called three times to the address in the last month.
Blocker graduated from Battle High two years ago. Many people may know him as the star lineman on the football team.
Members of the Columbia Public Schools community are speaking out, following the shooting – including one of Blocker’s former coaches.
“People say they wish they had a thousand of those types of kids right, this one kid, if we had a million of them that would be amazing. That was Rovon, he was always smiling, he was always happy, he was always outgoing,” said Cedric Alvis.
Superintendent Peter Stiepleman made an announcement on Twitter. He says Blocker was a kind-hearted student, with big dreams of becoming a police officer.
