Suspect: Woman shot in chest after gun fell out of suspect’s holster, Daily Star Journal reports
UPDATE 7/3: Shuey has been charged with second degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon while intoxicated, first degree involuntary manslaughter, armed criminal action and unlawful possession, transport, manufacture, repair or sale of an illegal weapon.
The detective in the case found a Mossberg 500A that was modified to be 2.5 inches shorter than legally allowed.
ORIGINAL STORY: According to the Daily Star Journal, Russell S. Shuey, 39, of 615 W. Clark St, is charged in Johnson County Circuit Court with second-degree murder and several other felonies in connection with the shooting death of a woman on Sunday.
Shuey’s bond is set at $100,000.
According to the Daily Start Journal’s report, the shooting happened at 248 S.W. Business 13 Highway.
The victim, Sabrina C. Shelton, 26, had been shot in the chest with a 9mm pistol.
The report goes on to say that Shuey told Detective Michael Coleman that he and Shelton had smoked marijuana and methamphetamine and decided to have sex in the bedroom. He said his 9 mm pistol fell out of the holster and landed on Shelton’s chest.
Shuey was impaired at the time of the shooting.
The murder charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.
The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation continues.
