Health experts say COVID cases are slowing down just in time for the summer
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
After more than two years since the start of the pandemic, some hospitals in Missouri are starting to see cases slow down just in time for the summer.
Locally COVID cases seem to be at a standstill here in Boone County.
While this is good news, health experts are still encouraging safety measures to prevent catching COVID-19.
"We're not really seeing an increase in cases over the last week or two things have been kinda staying pretty steady," said Trina Teacutter who works for Columbia/Boone County Health Department.
Although COVID cases may be steady right now, Teacutter says there are still a few things to keep in mind this summer especially if you're hitting the road.
"It's still recommended if you are traveling say on an airplane or on a bus or a train where you in an enclosed space with other people or a lot of other people, to wear a mask," said Teacutter.
In Jefferson City, a doctor says it's also seeing low COVID-19 cases at its hospital.
"We only have one patient that's currently admitted in the hospital with the diagnoses of covid and our case numbers being admitted have been quite low for quite a while now," said SSM's Vice President of Medical Affairs, Dr. Lenora Adams.
Whether you're traveling or staying local, Dr. Adams agrees that masking and using sanitizer is the best way to prevent catching COVID-19
And Dr. Adams also says you can do a little research on your own before traveling.
"It's a good idea to check your destination, you can look online to see what kind of COVID numbers you're having in your destination location," said Dr. Adams.
On a state level, Missouri's dashboard reports there are currently 680 covid-19 hospitalized patients, but Boone County's dashboard reports 31 current hospitalizations, 2 patients in the ICU, and no patients on ventilators.
