Tracking lower humidity, storm chances by Wednesday night
TONIGHT: Mostly clear and muggy with lows in the upper 70s.
TOMORROW: Breezy and hot with highs in the mid-90s. Heat index between 98-100. Storms possible around sunset, especially north of I-70.
EXTENDED: We'll fall once again into the upper 70s tonight with gusty south winds expected Wednesday. Highs on Wednesday reach the mid-90s with a heat index in the upper 90s to around 100. I'm tracking a slow moving cold front to our north that will trigger storms across parts of Iowa and Nebraska tonight, but could do the same for us tomorrow evening, likely after 7:00 p.m. Ingredients for severe weather seem to be falling into place, so there's a chance storms that develop could become strong with damaging winds and hail possible. Instability decreases with time overnight, so it would be a short window for severe, likely between about 7:00 p.m. and midnight. The front stalls out across the area, keeping points north a few degrees cooler. South of the front, we'll still reach the low to mid-90s on Thursday. Thursday night, another round of storms is possible along the front, but the severe ingredients we need to trigger strong storms don't look to be lining up. If we have storms form, they'll diminish by early Friday morning. The weekend is looking less humid, but temperatures will still be above average with highs in the lower 90s both Saturday and Sunday. The brutal heat looks to continue into next week with highs in the upper 90s to near 100 on Monday and Tuesday, along with a heat index between 101-103. Storm chances look to pick up a bit more toward mid-late next week as the high pressure ridge breaks down a bit.
