Madison street’s collapsed wall withstands concert, still awaits fate

The concert stage for Thursday Night Live relocated to its original location at the corner of Madison and E. High streets Thursday, which sits a few feet from the site of the crumbling wall that partially collapsed two weeks ago.

Loud music was not expected to cause any major damage to the building, and event organizers were confident in the event’s security.

“We’re set up like we always are. The Jefferson City Police Department is here, the fire department is here,” said Jill Snodgrass, an organizer for Thursday Night Live. “So we feel like we’re set.”

The owner of the building at 200 E. High St. has been responsive and helpful, according to city leaders, but does not have any permit for the closed sidewalk.

City leaders, including Larry Burkhardt, the head of the building regulations department, say they hope to get answers from the owner in the next week or two.

If the owner does not act in a timely manner, it’s possible the city could begin a process similar to abatement. Burkhardt says that’s very unlikely.
