Feeling like spring on the first official day of summer

THURSDAY: It’s the first official day of summer and for the first time in quite some time, it actually feels like spring. Temperatures this afternoon will hover in the low to mid 70s under mostly cloudy skies. This comes as a very slow moving low tracks across the Midwest, bringing not only cooler temperatures but some light to moderate rain showers. Any showers we see today will be on again and off again as the low continues to spin through the region.

TONIGHT: Showers and t-storms will decrease again late this evening with some isolated storms still possible overnight. Under clouds skies with winds out of the west from 5-9 mph, we’ll see temperatures drop into the lower 60s by daybreak.

EXTENDED: By Friday as the low pushes eastward, most of the rainfall will be scattered east of HWY 63. Temperatures will be mild for summer, only reaching the mid to upper 70s Friday with northwesterly winds up to 13 mph. Showers taper off in the evening and temperatures drop to the low 60s overnight. Saturday will start off dry with partly cloudy skies, but as a decaying MCS approaches from the southwest we will see increasing rain chances Saturday afternoon. If the system holds together for areas south of I-70 we have a chance to see damaging winds and large hail as we are under a marginal threat for severe weather. We’ll warm in the low to mid 80s by Sunday with storm chances decreasing through Sunday. Temperatures will continue heating back up next week, reaching 90 by Wednesday.
