Schweizer named Kiwanis Club Don Faurot Sportsperson of the Year

Former Mizzou distance star Karissa Schweizer is the 2018 Kiwanis Club Don Faurot Sportsperson of the Year. The Columbia Kiwanis Club honored her on Tuesday at one of its meetings.

Schweizer said, “It just means a lot to me to get this kind of attention and to be able to try to push a positive influence on younger girls and younger people in the community.”

Schweizer joins a prestigious group of past winners, including Norm Stewart, J’den Cox and Sophie Cunningham.

The Urbandale, Iowa native won six national titles in her four years at MU. Schweizer is also a 10-time All-American.

Schweizer recently signed to run professionally for Kimbia Athletics. She said she hopes to someday compete in the Olympics.
