Hot & Humid, Risk for storms through weekend

THIS AFTERNOON: We’re tracking more heat and humidity through the rest of this afternoon. Cloudy skies will continue to be on the increase, along with a few thunderstorm chances for the evening hours. These storms will pop across western Missouri in the early afternoon and track eastward along I-70 bring with them the chance at strong winds and hail. Severe storm activity is limited, but the potential for stronger storms is not out the question. Make sure you stick with ABC 17, especially if you have any outdoor evening plans as we track the latest into the evening.

TONIGHT: There will be a lot of dry time through the overnight hours under partly cloudy skies. With clouds hanging around and winds out of the southwest up to 7 mph low temperatures will only drop to 70 by morning. A cluster of storms will develop and drop south into our northern counties after 2 AM, this could provide for a soggy commute for areas north of I-70 on Friday morning. Some of these could be on the strong side.

EXTENDED: The rest of the week features a wash, rinse, and repeat cycle, as the summertime ridge continues to settle into the region. With a low level jet picking up each night, overnight storms will develop to the north and impact us during the morning hours each day through the weekend. The better chance for storms looks to be Friday morning and Saturday morning as the nose of the jet will be near us. While no organized severe storms will occur, the heat could make for a few isolated strong storms. The overall pattern shows a chance of rain and t-storms each day, with afternoon highs near 90 and overnight lows near 70. Watch ABC 17 News for the latest forecast and check back here for updates.
