20-year-old woman set on fire in her Johnson County home

A woman is recovering from first, second and third-degree burns in a Kansas City area hospital after being lit on fire in her Johnson County home.

According to the probable cause statement, Antonio Bowen and Vincent Rist entered the 20-year-old woman’s home. The two taped her hands and mouth and stole various items, including a shotgun.

Bowen hit the woman on the head with a lamp while Rist poured gasoline on her body, the probable cause statement said.

The men were threatening to light the woman on fire if she did not give them the combination to a gun safe. The woman refused and Rist set the gasoline on fire, the probable cause statement said.

The woman escaped the burning house and extinguished herself. She was transported to a burn unit in a Kansas City area hospital to treat the burns on over thirty percent of her body.

Bowen and Rist are charged in Johnson County with multiple charges including arson and first-degree assault. Their bond is set to $250,000.
