New Deputy Chief hired at Cole County EMS

Cole County EMS has hired a new Deputy Chief.

EMS Director Jerry Johnston announced Friday Matthew Lindewirth accepted the position, which had been vacant for several months.

Lindewirth currently serves as the EMS Chief in Berkeley County, South Carolina. Prior to that, he spent 18 years working at ambulance districts in the St. Louis area.

Lindewirth also serves in the U.S. Navy.

“He’s just got so much experience, and being from Missouri is a plus,” Presiding Commissioner Sam Bushman wrote in an email Sunday. “He’s going to be a great addition to Cole County EMS.”

Lindewirth begins his role as Deputy Chief on July 9.

The hire comes as the department continues to work to fill open paramedic and EMT positions.

Bushman said the department and commissioners are looking into the possibility of switching crews back to 24 hours shifts.
