Police close Walnut Street after early-morning rollover crash

Columbia police blocked off a portion of Walnut Street Sunday morning after a car crashed and landed on its top, police at the scene said.

Online dispatch records showed first responders were called to the intersection of Walnut and Melbourne streets around 2:20 a.m. for a motor vehicle collision.

Police at the scene said the driver left the roadway and struck a utility pole, which caused her car to roll and land on its top.

Police said it was a single-vehicle crash and there were no passengers.

Police said the driver did not need medical attention. Officers took her into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

The scene was cleared around 3:15 a.m.
