Neighbor reports fire in attic of home in Bearfield Subdivision

UPDATE: The Boone County Fire Protection District confirmed the fire was caused by an electrical surge protector that shorted out due to a small water leak in the basement. The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage.

Red Cross is providing assistance to the person that lived there.

ORIGINAL: A fire in a home just off E. Gans Rd. in the Bearfield Subdivision was reported by a neighbor on Thursday evening.

Fire crews were dispatched around 5 p.m. There was a fire in the attic and the basement. Investigators are working to find out how the fires may have been connected and which fire started first.

There were no injuries and no people or pets home at the time of the fire.
