Tracking storms with a punch for late Tuesday night
TODAY: The overall pattern we've found ourselves in lately has been an active one with daily chances for rain coming from quick moving systems that seem to dive in out of the northwest. Today's forecast will be no exception. A complex of storms moving south through parts of Kansas this morning will largely miss us with it's worst, but we will still likely pick up some showers or even perhaps a rumble of thunder or two from it. This will be mostly limited to the morning hours. Still, with lingering moisture and instability in the atmosphere, some guidance suggests we may see an isolated storm or two this afternoon. Most folks will stay dry under partly cloudy skies, with highs in the low 80s.
TONIGHT: Things start to look stormy again this evening. Another short wave, similar to what's driving today's storms in Kansas and Oklahoma, will start to create thunderstorm development in Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa Tuesday evening. Storms that develop there this evening will quickly grow to severe levels. The concern for us, is that these storms will begin to cluster into a line of storms and push southeast towards mid-Missouri. At face value, these storms will have potential for hail, damaging winds and tornadoes as they push towards Kansas City. With that said, by the time they arrive in northwest Missouri, it will likely be close to midnight. The loss of daytime heating will contribute to a weakening system, lessening our threat of severe weather locally. Still, it's possible we could see storms produce hail and damaging winds on an isolated basis. No tornado threat is anticipated locally. Almost all will see a chance for heavy rain and a good dose of lightning and thunder.
EXTENDED: Beyond this line of storms, showers may linger through Wednesday morning, before drier weather settles in Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday looks a little cooler behind the rain, with highs barely cracking 80. Similar temperatures are expected Thursday, as high pressure builds in, keeping us clear. Another round of rain looks to move in Friday, keeping temperatures down in the 70s well into Saturday, where things dry out again. Dry weather looks to stick through the weekend, where temperatures start to recover into the 80s by Sunday.
