Hot Weekend Ahead

TODAY: Mostly sunny skies will greet this Memorial Day weekend as this warm weather pattern continues. High temperatures will climb near 90 this afternoon with heat indices up to 97 in some locations. There is a chance that we have some thunderstorms develop in the afternoon due to the heat and humidity in the air. Nothing severe is expected with little upper-level support, but could see some stronger storms nonetheless.

TONIGHT: Any thunderstorms that do develop will quickly dissipate as the sun begins to set tonight. We’ll see mostly clear skies and calming winds heading into the overnight hours with temperatures bottoming out in the mid to upper 60s.

EXTENDED: An upper level ridge slides over and takes a firm grip on Mid-Missouri for the rest of our Memorial Day weekend. Temperatures will soar into the low to middle 90s Sunday and Monday with heat indices closing in on the 100 degree mark. If you plan on enjoying any outdoor activities, make sure to stay properly hydrated throughout the day and grab some sunscreen. Beginning Tuesday, the ridge in place will begin to weaken, bringing back the chances of afternoon thunderstorms to the area. Stay tuned to ABC 17 for the latest updates to the forecast.
