Investigative Committee reads ‘graphic’ transcription of former Greitens’ mistress’ testimony
The Special Committee on Oversight that has been investigating Gov. Greitens began a series of hearings Tuesday afternoon that will introduce new testimony from the woman with whom the governor has admitted to having an extramarital affair.
The affair led to a charge of invasion of privacy against the governor that was withdrawn.
In Tuesday’s meeting, the committee announced it has received more than 700 pages of documents from the St. Louis circuit attorney, including testimony from the woman Greitens is accused of taking a photo of while she was blindfolded and bound in 2015.
Committee Chairman Jay Barnes said the committee will spend much of its time reading that testimony into the record, that it could take 14 to 16 hours of cross-examination and it could go into Saturday.
The testimony of the woman involved discusses everything from her former lovers, her ex-husband, children and even whether or not she had a belly button piercing.
Aside from reading testimony into the public record, the committee will be hearing fresh testimony this week.
The lawyer for the woman’s ex-husband, Al Watkins, says he’s looking forward to speaking out.
“We welcome, I surely welcome the opportunity to, uh, clarify any questions that the, uh, that the investigative committee may have. Uh, they’ve got a very important task in front of them, uh it’s a very somber one and it’s a very sad time for the state of Missouri”
Members of the committee also said it will take testimony from former capitol press corps member Scott Faughn, who was kicked out of the press corps after he was accused of making a payment to the lawyer of the woman’s ex-husband, and testimony from that lawyer this week.
Attorneys for the governor’s office are sitting in Tuesday’s hearing and said they’re concerned the reading of the new testimony is a waste of time, and they question whether the process will be fair.
