Two suspects still on the run from last night’s Prairie Lane burglary

Two suspected burglars are still on the loose from last night’s burglary in Northwest Columbia.

ABC 17 spoke to other neighbors on the street, who said they’ve had attempted burglaries themselves, as well as seen suspicious cars in the neighborhood.

One neighbor who does not want to be identified said someone tried to rob her home one month ago.

“I’ve had someone try to break-in my house. I had my son and grandson here and they also tried to break-in my car,” said the woman.

She told us, last night someone broke into her son’s car for the second time.

Resident Mike Lindstrom said he’s been living on Prairie Lane for ten years and said it’s always been a family neighborhood; people leave their doors unlocked.

But, lately he said he’s seen suspicious cars.

“Guys, cruising five or ten miles an hour, just looking like their scoping houses,” said Lindstrom.

Lindstrom told us after last night, he will be locking his doors from now on.

The woman, who wants to be remain unidentified, told us she thinks the city needs to put in more street lights and there needs to be a neighborhood watch. She told us she hopes police will get involved. She’s worried this is just the beginning.

“I hate for them to go to the wrong house and someone ends up getting killed,” said the woman.

Columbia Police Department is still not releasing any further information about last night’s burglary.

In the last year on Prairie Lane, reports show five 991 and theft calls.

ABC 17 spoke to security companies who had some recommendations to keep your home safe.

John Pile’s from Tech Electronics of Columbia told us, it is important to double check locking windows and doors. He said wait to post on social media if you are out of town.

He also told us, “there are some great IP cameras you can place inside your home.”

Pile said even putting stickers outside your windows and doors deters thieves from entering your home.

ABC 17 also spoke to James from Shelby’s Watch, a security service in Columbia, who says they recommend hiring a company to come and check your home and make sure it is thief bullet-proofed. They suggest hiring a company to watch your home, when you are out of town.
