Clearing skies and warmer temperatures through midweek
TODAY: It’s a fairly quiet afternoon across Mid-Missouri, with cloudy skies remaining in place. Clouds will stay with us through the better portion of the afternoon, as a frontal boundary takes it’s time tracking to the southeast. While it will be a quiet day in terms of precipitation, a spot shower/storm can’t be ruled out near I-44 into the evening hours. Temperatures today all hinge on clouds clearing out by the afternoon hours. If we see clearing early, highs will top out near 80, if clouds remain stubborn we’ll see highs in the lower 70s. Nonetheless, a passing cold front will shift winds out of the north, giving us a break from the heat.
TONIGHT: A calm night is in store for Mid-Missouri, with passing clouds expected. With saturated soil in place across Mid-Missouri and temperatures bottoming out near 60, we’ll see patchy fog develop once more across the region. Some areas could see some dense fog form. Winds out of the north up to 7 mph should prevent any dense fog from forming, except in areas that are blocked from the wind.
EXTENDED: Another warming trend arrives this week, as a ridge builds in from the west. This will keep the first half of the week dry and sunny, with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. With the recent rain, dewpoints will be on the high side making it feel quite muggy outside. It’s possible we could see heat indices by Wednesday climb into the lower 90s. The rainy, unsettled pattern ramps up again as we head into Thursday. A series of shortwaves will track along the western extent of the ridge bringing more rain to Mid-Missouri. Most of the rain will stay confined to areas west of Hwy 63, but as the ridge shifts off to the east, that rain will gradually track through all of Mid-Missouri. The stormy pattern stays with us through the holiday weekend, where storms are possible by Saturday. While it won’t be a washout, storms are looking likely into Memorial Day.
