Severe Threat This Weekend
TODAY: Showers will be moving out of Kansas and into Mid-Missouri this morning. These showers and thunderstorms have packed a bit more of a punch than advertised. Once these showers move out, we’ll see sunshine attempt to return to the area with temperatures warming into the low to middle 80s. We’ll have to watch for some redevelopment this afternoon, as those could quickly become severe given the unstable atmosphere in place. Winds will be out of the south around 10 mph.
TONIGHT: Another round of storms will move in this evening with a better chance of severe weather. This round will be coming in after 7 pm this evening and could impact places along and north of I-70, with the best chance for severe weather north of HWY 24. Potential threats include damaging winds, large hail, and possibly an isolated tornado. These storms will exit Mid-Missouri by 2 AM.
EXTENDED: A front will be moving through the region on Sunday, bringing another chance for some storms in the afternoon hours. We have marginal risk for severe weather Sunday as well, with the main threat being damaging winds and large hail again. The severe threat will be hinging on exactly what happens coming into the morning, so likely will change in the next 24 hours. We’ll be looking at another potentially active work week coming up as this summer-like air mass remains in place. With instability hanging on, it’s tough to rule out many days where we won’t see the chance for some thunderstorms. Highs will fluctuate in the 80s and drop down to the middle 60s for overnight lows.
