Swarmer earns 1st MLB win, Cubs top Cards to open twinbill

CHICAGO (AP) — Matt Swarmer earned his first big league win and Frank Schwindel homered in a three-hit showing to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 6-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the first game of a doubleheader. Swarmer allowed two hits and one earned run in six innings while striking out six and walking two. It was his second start in the majors. Schwindel hit his eighth home run, connecting against Johan Oviedo to left-center field for a 2-0 lead in the fifth.
