Emergency crews clear non-injury crash in southwest Columbia
No one was hurt when a 91-year-old woman drove into a parked car in southwest Columbia Friday night.
The crash happened around 9:07 p.m. at the Bray Avenue and Weaver Drive intersection, just east of Scott Boulevard.
Emergency crews at the scene told ABC 17 News the woman wasn’t hurt after her vehicle flipped over in the collision.
Brigitte Tollett, a Bray Avenue reisdent, was getting her mail on Friday night when she saw the woman driving east toward Fairview Road. Tollett told ABC 17 News she tried waving at the driver when she drifted closer to the curb. The woman hit her brother’s car, which was parked on the street.
Neighbors rushed to the woman to make sure she was OK, Tollett said. First responders eventually helped her out of the car. Columbia police Lieutenant Matt Stephens said the driver did not suffer any injuries.
“Finding out later as things unfolded that she was 91 years old, I was incredibly shocked,” Tollett said. “To see her physically walk down the street, home, at the end of the accident, is just mind-boggling.”
