Tracking severe storms into this afternoon and evening

THIS AFTERNOON: Temperatures will slowly rise through the middle 80s this afternoon, as clouds continue to meager in to the area. As you begin your evening commute home, watch out for the development of a few thunderstorms, especially after 6pm as we begin to interact with the stationary boundary to our north.

TONIGHT: Evening storms are likely to track through the region, as the stubborn stationary boundary to our north finally tracks to the south. This will lead to an increased risk of storms through the night. With storms remaining along the boundary and an increasing lower level jet, it’s likely we could see some storms slow into the night and lead to an increased risk for heavy rain. The slight risk in place across parts of Mid-Missouri will extend into the night, as a line of storms tracking through the region will bring the greatest threat of damaging winds.

EXTENDED: Through the rest of the week, temperatures remain on the warm side. Our average high for this time of year is in the low to mid 70s, with each day seeing temperatures above 80 degrees. This will continue the trend of one of the warmest Mays ever recorded, as the summerlike pattern continues. As the upper level ridge we’ve been under shifts off to the east, the door opens for daily storm chances. A series of disturbances will track through Mid-Missouri into the middle of the week, as we finally see some much needed rain across the area. Cooler temperatures are expected towards the end of the week, as high pressure builds in on the backside of the frontal boundary. This will lead to highs in the lower 80s and overnight lows in the mid 60s Stay with ABC 17 News as we continue to bring you the latest in Mid-Missouri weather.
