Lawmakers come up with ‘bipartisan budget’ for 2019, intend to have on Governor’s desk by tomorrow
ABC 17 spoke with lawmakers today about their reaction to the passed budget for the 2019 fiscal year.
Representative Chuck Basye told us he is pleased with the bill, he believes that it turned out as best it could.
He did tell us, he was displeased by one bill passed, to allow Missouri schools and colleges to increase tuition by one percent. He told us he voted against it.
“Since the protest that I didn’t want any tuition increases on students that had nothing to do with that. It was a doubt that it’s going to happen that there is an automatic ability for the University to increase its tuition so I voted against that,” said Representative Basye.
We also asked Basye whether he thinks it has been a normal session under the circumstances of Governor Greitens and his criminal trial next week.
Basye told us in the four years he has served this has been a pretty normal session.
“It’s been pretty normal. There are contentions in some of the budget bills. Kip Kendrick is a colleague of mine and he got up and said he was pretty happy about how it turned out,” said Basye.

Lawmakers seem pleased so far with the budget, but Basye did say they have a lot more work to do before May 18th at 6:00 p.m. when they need to put the budget and bill on the Governor’s desk.
