Missouri House votes to maintain higher education funding

Missouri House lawmakers voted 119-28 Wednesday afternoon to restore funding that Gov. Eric Greitens had proposed to cut from higher education.

The governor’s budget called for a $68 million cut but lawmakers decided to keep the funding level for most public colleges and universities.

A few schools will get a one-time boost. Lincoln University will get $4 million, Harris-Stowe State University will see $750,000, and Missouri Southern State University is getting a $2 million bonus.

Now the Senate will consider it.
