Daily storm chances, with record-breaking heat likely this weekend

WEDNESDAY: The rain has come to an end here in Mid-Missouri, with skies slowly clearing into the afternoon. Areas west of Hwy 63 will see more clear skies through the day, with a better chance for clouds east of Hwy 63. This will lead to slightly cooler temperatures in eastern parts of Mid-Missouri. Nevertheless, all locations will climb into the low to mid 80s this afternoon. While we will stay dry for most of the day, if we see highs climb above 85 degrees we’ll begin to see late afternoon/early evening storms develop along a cold front near I-44. It will also be a breezy day with winds out of the west up to 15 mph and gusting as high as 25.

TONIGHT: A mostly clear night is ahead with mild temperatures as overnight lows remain in the 60s. Breezy winds will subside tonight with southwesterly winds up to 9 mph.

EXTENDED: The aforementioned cold front, which stalls in southern Missouri will move back to the north Thursday as a warm front and a few storms are possible during the day but will be very spotty. Thursday’s temperatures will be more like July as we reach the mid to upper 80s with partly cloudy skies. It stays dry Friday with highs approaching 90 which would tie the record from 1914 if we reach it. Late Friday night, storms in northern Missouri near the front could track to the southeast and move into areas north of I-70 Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon looks dry and very warm as we reach the upper 80s to near 90 once again. As the cold front drops south Sunday, spotty storms are possible and it will be cooler, with highs near 80 for Mother’s Day. Most of the rain chances as we head through the rest of this week and into the week will reside along a stationary frontal boundary that will set up shop north of I-70. This will keep warmer temperatures to our south, with temperatures 1 to 2 degrees cooler to our north. Watch ABC 17 News for the newest forecast and check back here for updates.
