Storms tonight, summer-like heat this week

TONIGHT: A warm front will bring showers and t-storms tonight after 9 PM as low level winds at 2000 feet increase from the south feeding moisture into the storms. There is a marginal severe threat west of HWY 63 and north of I-70 Tuesday for isolated storms with strong wind gusts or large hail. At this time it looks like the best chance of storms with heavy rain will be along and north of I-70 with pockets up to an inch possible.

WEDNESDAY: Rain ends by daybreak and we’ll see partly sunny skies, leading to a warm afternoon as we reach into the mid 80s. Most areas will stay dry but there is a slight storm chance mainly near I-44 by mid-afternoon as a weak cold front moves through. No severe weather is expected. Winds will come in from the west at 8-15 mph, gusting to 25 occasionally.

EXTENDED: It will stay warm Wednesday night with lows in the mid 60s. The cold front which stalls in southern Missouri will move back to the north Thursday as a warm front and a few storms are possible during the day but will be very spotty. Thursday’s temperatures will be more like July as we reach the mid to upper 80s with partly cloudy skies. It stays dry Friday with highs approaching 90 which would tie the record from 1917 if we reach it. Late Friday night, storms in northern Missouri near the front could track to the southeast and move into areas north of I-70 Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon looks dry and very warm as we reach the upper 80s to near 90 once again. As the cold front drops south Sunday, spotty storms are possible and it will be cooler, with highs near 80 for Mother’s Day.
