K-9 and members of Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office receive Resolution for arrest

The Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office was invited to the capital house floor on Wednesday to receive a Resolution.

State Representative Sara Walsh and David Wood presented the Resolution on the house floor to Lt. Kevin Morse, Deputy James Wiecken and K-9 Apollo for their work during an arrest made on March 16, 2018, according to an official release.

The incident happened on Highway 50, East of California, Mo.

While Deputy Wiecken and Lt. Morse were making a traffic stop on a vehicle, the suspect attempted to retrieve a handgun from his vehicle.

The suspect fought with deputies and tried to disarm Deputy Wiecken to gain control of his firearm.

K-9 Apollo forced the suspect off of the deputies, but the suspect then tried to choke out the K-9.

That’s when deputies, with the assistance of the California Police Department, took the suspect into custody.
