Moniteau County deputies arrest man after car chase

UPDATE 3:20 pm: Martin has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

ORIGINAL STORY: Moniteau County deputies arrested Steven Martin on Sunday after officers stopped a vehicle on Highway 50 for an equipment violation.

Deputies said Martin was currently on federal probation for distribution of drugs.

Officers said when they made contact with Martin, he was very nervous and did not give consent to search his car.

Deputies asked Martin to get out of the vehicle so a K-9 unit could perform a sniff for narcotics but Martin drove away from the scene.

After a short pursuit, the chase ended near Highway E.

Martin was taken into custody and deputies found methamphetamine inside of the car.

Martin faces possible charges of possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest by fleeing. His bond is set at $40,000.
