Sources say workers comp claim targets Carl DeBrodie death investigation

ABC 17 News has confirmed through multiple sources the workers comp claim filed was in regards to the Carl DeBrodie death investigation.

Since ABC 17 News broke this story Friday evening, we have been digging deeper into the claim. In the 12-page complaint filed last year, a former employee of Second Chance says she, “became a witness in a murder investigation involving one of the consumers whom I supervised and was asked to spend time alone with another client who had confessed to the murder.”

The claim lists the injury date as Feb. 28, 2017, nearly two months before DeBrodie was reported missing.

The claim doesn’t list DeBrodie’s name anywhere in it.

According to Fulton Police Department, there is only one active death investigation involving Second Chance homes.

ABC 17 News sunshine requested police reports to Second Chance homes. From 2006 to October 2016, police have been to second chance homes 16 times. Police calls ranged from music being too loud to assault.

A deeper look at the assault report in 2016 states two workers of Second Chance told police a client there hit both of them in the face after being told he couldn’t eat in his bedroom. The client was later arrested and charged with assault. The same client had several other reports, including verbal altercations with staff.

ABC 17 News has contacted DeBrodie’s familiy attorney for comment on the workers comp claim Saturday evening.
