Snow chance Friday night and Sunday
TONIGHT: Snow is possible as we head into the evening, with the greatest chance along and south of Hwy 50. It’s highly possible that areas near I-70 remain snow free, outside of a few flurries. This drying trend has been evident the past 24 hours, so wouldn’t be surprised if many locations no accumulating snow. Areas in extreme southern Mid-Missouri could see up to .a half inch of snow depending on the track of the surface low. As the system exits the area, skies will slowly begin to clear. Under clear skies with breezy northerly winds, temperatures will drop to near 20 degrees. If overnight lows drop below 19 degrees the record low will break for Columbia, showing just how unusually cold it will be across mid-Missouri.
SATURDAY: A northerly breeze will give us wind chills in the low teens in the morning, despite mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will only reach the lower 40s which is 20 degrees below average.
EXTENDED: Lows will dip into the upper 20s Saturday night with light winds and mostly clear skies. Another chance of wintry mix moves in late Sunday morning with snow changing to rain as temperatures stay chilly, only reaching near 40. There is a chance we could pick up a dusting of snow late-morning to early afternoon Sunday before temperatures warm above freezing. The better chance of minor snow accumulation is north of I-70. The work week will start off cool, only reaching the upper 40s with a slight rain chance late Monday. We’ll finally see a return of spring as we jump into the 60s next Wednesday through Friday with storms possible Friday as another storm system approaches.
