Colder air moving in, snow chance Friday

TONIGHT: Overnight lows won’t be as cold, but a passing cold front will shift winds from the southwest to the northwest and temperatures will bottom out in the upper 30s under mostly cloudy skies.

FRIDAY: It will be a blustery, cold day across Mid-Missouri, with falling temperatures through the day and northerly winds gusting to 25 mph. While the first part of the day will be dry, building moisture from the southwest will move into the cold air in place across the region. This will lead to some light rain showers by mid-afternoon that will transition into snow through the evening hours Friday. It’s looking more likely that we’ll only see a dusting to an inch of snow across most of the area as forecast models are trending drier. A narrow stripe higher amounts up to an inch and a half is possible south of HWY 50 in the Ozarks. Considering the light amounts of snow and warm roads, most accumulation is expected on grassy and elevated surfaces.

EXTENDED: The snow moves out by midnight and temperatures will fall into the upper teens by Saturday morning with wind chills near 10 degrees. Highs will be slow to rebound, as we only climb into the upper 30s to near 40 by Saturday afternoon under mostly sunny skies. Another chance of wintry mix moves in Sunday morning with snow changing to rain as temperatures stay chilly, only reaching the low 40s. There is a chance we could pick up a dusting of snow early Sunday before temperatures warm above freezing. The work week will start off cool and dry, only reaching the upper 40s but we’ll finally see a return of spring as we jump into the 60s next Wednesday through Friday.
