Warm today, with winter returning by Friday

THURSDAY: It will be a pleasant afternoon across Mid-Missouri, as temperatures climb into the low to mid 60s. Clouds are hard to come by this afternoon, so another sunny day is in the works. As a warm front lifts through the region, we’ll see windy conditions on the backside of the front. Winds will shift from the south to the southwest up to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25. With the warming winds, highs will climb into the lower 60s under mostly sunny skies.

TONIGHT: Overnight lows tonight won’t be as cold, but a passing cold front will shift winds from the southwest to the northwest. Temperatures will bottom out in the upper 30s under mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures will continue to fall into the night and Friday, as cold Canadian air filters into the region.

EXTENDED: As quickly as the spring tease arrived, temperatures will begin to fall quickly as a strong cold front tracks through the region. Friday will be a raw and cold day across Mid-Missouri, with falling temperatures through the day. While the first part of the day will be dry, building moisture from the southwest will move into the cold air in place across the region. This will lead to some rain showers that will transition into snow through the evening hours Friday. Preliminary forecast totals have two swaths of snow expected to track into Mid-Missouri. The northern disturbance will track in from the northwest and likely bringing 1-2″ of snow to areas along and north of Hwy 24. The southern disturbance will track in from the southwest and could bring anywhere form 1-2″ of snow to areas along and south of Hwy 50, with localized heavier amounts. Areas near I-70 look to be the dividing line, where up to an inch of snow is possible. There is a brief window of opportunity for some freezing rain/sleet in southern portions of Mid-Missouri Friday evening. With the snow expected into Friday night, cold air will quickly plummet temperatures into the upper teens by Saturday morning. Highs will be slow to rebound, as we only climb into the upper 30s by Saturday afternoon under mostly sunny skies. Another chance of rain and wintry mix moves in Sunday as temperatures stay cool, only reaching the low 50s. Stay tuned to ABC 17 for the latest forecast and updates.
